We have both always loved the Italian countryside and as soon as Robin popped the question, without a doubt we knew Tuscany was the destination of choice for our wedding. We only wanted a small celebration with just our closest family and friends and so we began our hunt for the perfect venue.
After touring tuscany for what seemed a lifetime, we stumbled on the very beautiful and opulent Borgo Santo Pietro near Chiusdino. Its style and welcoming aura seemed to have a very powerful pull on us and we knew as soon as we arrived and made our way up the cypress tree lined drive, that this was where we wanted to celebrate our special day. We chose to have a civil ceremony and couldn’t believe our luck when the team at BSP recommended San Galgano Abbey as the backdrop in which to exchange our vowels and luckily for us and our guests, this was just a short 5 minute drive away. What could we say……. The roofless gothic abbey was simply breathtaking. We were in ore of its grandeur. We couldn’t wait to show our loved ones these two very special places which we were so lucky to have found.
The September weekend was upon us, our wedding was finally here and although Italy had experienced a very wet summer, we felt a sigh of relief when we knew our day would be blessed with the sun. We knew it would not be hard to tempt our guests over to Tuscany a day earlier and on the eve before the big day, so we treated everyone to the most beautiful BBQ with lots of delicious Italian dishes. The weekend had started very well indeed.
To my joy, i awoke on the day to a beautiful sunny Tuscan countryside and as i took a quiet breakfast alone on my balcony overlooking the scenery, i could feel the nerves building. One of the most cherished parts of being a bride, is the morning of preperation. The suite at BSP was simply magnificent. I felt like a princess. At 4 o’clock I made my way with my father along the winding tuscan roads in our vintage Mercedes to the abbey where I would find my handsome prince waiting for me. The Ceremony was perfect and romantic, everything we had hoped it would be. under the stunning backdrop of the San Galgano Abbey.
Following the ceremony and along with our guests, we made our way as the new Mr and Mrs back to the villa where the celebrations could begin. We were met by scrumptious canape’s and refreshing Aperol Sprtizers and of course not forgetting the bubbling Prossecco. At this stage, the vey funny and heartfelt speeches were made in the rose garden and then we all sat down to feast on our first dinner as man and wife under the terrace as the sun finally disappeared for the day. We decided to hold our first dance in the tree house which is a very beautiful area adorned with candelabra, armchairs and cosy blankets. We had not rehearsed and were both dreading its arrival. But as soon as Ellie Gouldings, “How Long Will I Love You?” began to play, our steps seemed to fall into place. This was very romantic and special and a moment we will remember forever. This then lead the way for the party to really begin. Watching our friends and family dancing away and enjoying themselves was another highlight to the most perfect day. The tequilas then began to flow as did the drunken dance moves and roars of laughter, everyone was having so much fun. When we look back on the day now, there was nothing we would have changed. Everything was perfect from the moment we awoke to the moment we fell asleep as a married couple. We will always hold Borgo Santo Pietro and San Galgano Abbey very close to our hearts and the staff and our amazing wedding planner Simona simply made everything so perfect.
I just wish we could do it all over again.
